The 176 riders registered for the Tour de France 2023 will compete for stages, jerseys, and also special prizes. This year, the organizers have released the sum of 2.3 million euros that will be given to the riders and teams. How much will the big winner earn? What rewards are planned during the different stages? Europe 1 takes stock.

In addition to the traditional jerseys and points to be taken during each stage, the 176 riders entered in the Tour de France can win the jackpot in the 2023 edition. As detailed by the organizers of the race, a total endowment of 2.3 million euros is released this summer. It will be awarded to teams and riders who have distinguished themselves on the roads of France. Moreover, this overall allocation is slightly increased compared to last year, since it was around €2.28 million in 2022.

500,000 euros for the big winner

In detail, the prize money specifically awarded to classified runners amounts exactly to 1,138,800 euros, and it is more or less important depending on the general classification. Thus, the winner of the 2023 edition will leave with 500,000 euros. A second place ensures the sum of 200,000 euros, and a third place brings 100,000 euros.

It should be noted that the wearer of the yellow jersey will win a bonus of 500 euros on the days he runs with this attribute. For green, polka dot and white jerseys, an amount of 300 euros is at stake.

For these different jerseys, a bonus is also awarded at the end of the competition. The best sprinter - green jersey - and the best climber of the 2023 edition - polka dot jersey - will earn 25,000 euros each, while the best young rider will receive a check for 20,000 euros.

11,000 euros for the winner of a stage

Cyclists who win one of the 21 stages on the programme this summer will also be rewarded. Whoever wins a stage of the Tour will pocket the sum of 11,000 euros. A rider who finishes in second place will win half, or 5,500 euros. Finally, 2,800 euros will crown the third man of a stage.

Finally, the organizers also put "exceptional" bonuses at stake throughout the course. The first rider to climb the top of the Col du Tourmalet in the sixth stage will win 5,000 euros, as will the rider who climbs the top of the Col de la Loze in the lead during the 17th stage.

Also, runners will be honored by a jury for special skills. The most combative of the Tour will receive 20,000 euros at the end of the Grande Boucle. And at the end of each of the three weeks of racing, the competitor considered the best teammate will be awarded the sum of 3,000 euros.
